How much does a bespoke olfactory identity cost?
In short: the cost of a bespoke olfactory identity depends on five factors: the starting point (catalogue fragrance or new creation), the number of revision rounds, formats and packaging, quantities, and diffusion (buying or renting diffusers, refill consumption). A serious quote itemises each of these separately.

"How much does it cost?" is often the first question, and it is a good one. The honest answer is: it depends on what you want to do with your fragrance. A scent diffused in a single lobby does not have the same budget as a signature rolled out across diffusion, sprays, candles and gifts for several sites.
This article sets out the items that make up the budget, explains how to read a quote and gives the few reference points we can guarantee. The goal: to let you compare offers on a clear basis.
What drives the price of an olfactory identity?
Price depends first on creation (choosing an existing fragrance or composing a new one), then on everything that brings the fragrance to life: formats, quantities and diffusion. Creation is paid once; diffusion and products recur with every order.
The starting point: catalogue fragrance or bespoke creation
At Eco French Lab you can choose from more than 500 fragrances developed in Grasse or have an exclusive fragrance composed. The two approaches do not involve the same budget.
Criterion | Catalogue fragrance | Bespoke creation |
Creation cost | None or limited (selection, samples) | Perfumer's work, trials, adjustments |
Exclusivity | Shared with other clients | Reserved for your brand |
Set-up time | Fast | Time for the brief and trials |
Formula | The range's formula | Created for you, kept and protected in our laboratory and in Grasse |
Best for | Testing diffusion, tight budget, urgent need | A brand that wants its own lasting asset |
Many projects start with a catalogue fragrance to test diffusion in the spaces before moving on to a creation. It is not money wasted: the test helps sharpen the brief.
The number of revision rounds
A creation goes through proposals, then adjustments. The clearer the brief, the fewer trials are needed. A vague brief or many decision-makers multiply the rounds, and therefore the working time. Check how many directions and adjustments are included in the offer, and what an extra trial costs.
Formats and packaging
Each format has its cost: diffuser refill, 50 or 100 ml glass room spray, reed diffuser, candle, linen mist. Add to that the components (bottles, caps, vessels, labels, boxes) and customisation (logo, colours, finishes). A stock bottle costs less than a container developed specially.
Quantities
The unit cost falls as the run grows: fixed costs (set-up, labels, production launch) are spread over more pieces. For gifts, a travel-size format can start below €10 excl. VAT.
Diffusion: buy or rent, and refills
To scent your premises you need diffusers and fragrance. Our professional cold-air nebulising electric diffusers are available to buy or to rent. Buying is an upfront investment; renting spreads the cost and simplifies maintenance. Either way, plan for the consumption of alcohol-free fragrance refills, which depends on the number of devices, the size of the spaces and the settings (schedules and intensity programmed from the Aroma Link app). Our article Should you buy or rent professional fragrance diffusers? compares the two options.
What does Eco French Lab offer?
We offer two creation packages: the Creator Pack, to design your brand's olfactory identity, and the Prestige Pack. With the Creator Pack, allow about 2 weeks between the questionnaire and the approval of your fragrance. Pricing for the Creator Pack and the Prestige Pack is provided on quotation, based on your project. Diffusion and spin-off products are quoted separately.
How do you read an olfactory identity quote?
A good quote separates creation, products and diffusion, and specifies what is included, what is optional and what is paid on every order. If these items are bundled together, ask for the breakdown.
Here are the lines you should find:
Creation: starting point (catalogue or bespoke), number of directions, number of adjustments included, samples.
The formula: where it is stored, and under what conditions you can reorder it.
Products: for each format, the unit price, quantities, components and customisation.
Diffusion: number and model of diffusers, purchase or rental, rental term, installation and settings.
Refills: unit price and estimated consumption based on your settings.
Logistics: delivery, production lead times, restocking terms.
Compliance: IFRA certificate and labelling documents provided.
Also compare what does not appear on a price line: the perfumer's experience, the production site, how the formula is kept and the support after creation. Eco French Lab creations are developed by our team, produced in Grasse and compliant with IFRA standards.
How much time should you allow?
Lead time depends on the same factors as budget. A series of scented gifts takes around six weeks; a bespoke creation also needs time for the brief, trials and approval.
So plan ahead: a year-end gift or a venue opening should be prepared several months in advance if the fragrance has to be created for the occasion.
How can you keep your budget under control?
A precise brief, a gradual start and well-chosen formats let you control costs without sacrificing consistency.
Polish the brief to limit revision rounds.
Start with a catalogue fragrance to test diffusion, then move on to a creation.
Prioritise spaces: reception first, other areas later.
Rent the diffusers if you want to spread the investment.
Use stock containers rather than custom developments.
Group product orders to benefit from larger runs.

Frequently asked questions
Is an olfactory identity only for big brands?
No. You can start with a catalogue fragrance and a few diffusers, rented if needed, then develop the project into a bespoke creation.
Do I pay for the creation with every order?
No. Creation is paid once. After that you order refills and products; the formula is kept so it can be reproduced identically.
How much does a gift carrying the brand's scent cost?
It depends on the format, packaging and quantities. A travel-size format can start below €10 excl. VAT.
Is it better to buy or rent diffusers?
Buying suits you if you want a one-off investment; renting spreads the cost and simplifies maintenance. Both options are available.
Conclusion: a clear budget starts with a clear brief
The cost of an olfactory identity is not a single figure: it is the sum of a creation, formats and diffusion, which you can scale to your priorities. A detailed, itemised quote is the best way to compare and decide.
